Jack Kirby's daughter was a 60's Pop Star in London, Doctor Who scheduling and 173 stories you may have missed on Bleeding Cool
It's been a while, I know... apologies.
There has been some reportage of late that seems to paint British Doctor Who fans as whinging poms. Those who are complaining that new episodes of Doctor Who will drop on Disney+/BBC iPlayer at midnight British time, but earlier in the afternoon/evening for the Americans. And that in order to avoid spoilers, Brits will have to stay up unreasonably late. Or if they want to watch with their families, always the intended Doctor Who audience, will have to deal with the media reporting on any major plot twists through the day. But some argue that this is the price of the Disney+ hookup that has lifted the budget and prominence of the show and that Brits should stop whinging and be grateful. But there is a big difference in the way Brits see the show - we own it. It's part of the BBC, which we pay for with an annual TV license fee. And as a result, the British believe that the principle audience of the show should be the British. It's fine to share it with the Americans, with the world, but not to be the secondary audience of consideration. Not mentioning that aspect and the relationship the British public has with the BBC and the license fee is like discussing gun control in the USA without mentioning the Second Amendment. Outside the UK, it won't be recognised as a factor, but inside the UK, it is a massive aspect. Basically, the TV license fee is a lot bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. Oh, and the iPlayer going live 19 hours before the TV airing also really hits the live TV ratings numbers in the UK, which means the usual people can say Doctor Who is failing because the lead actor is black. But anyway… here are a few recent Bleeding Cool stories you may have missed that may be worth catching up on. No more Doctor Who, I promise. For now. Okay, maybe a couple. And there was that thing I did on Substack earlier in the week as well…
